This is one of my favorite spots because it’s usually empty–especially during the summer months. The water is very shallow for quite a long time so it makes it a great spot for young children and easy snorkeling.  If you take a shallow water boat, you can anchor steps away from the beach and enjoy the easy privacy allowed by a bridge-less barrier island. Not to mention, I think this is one of the most beautiful spots around with wide beaches full of shark’s teeth and shells, swaying natural grasses and no disruption from homes or man-made structures.

One of my favorite places to go in Englewood is Stump Pass State Park. This particular group of photos comes from the Western edge of the park along the beach. Most days are extremely quiet, especially during the summer months, and crossing paths with others is a rare occasion. I prefer to go by boat and anchor up just feet from the sand, but others enjoy taking the hike from the public parking area to the North–probably a 15-20 minute walk along the beach.

There are plentiful shells, wildlife and marine life–the downed trees attract quite a community.  Grab your snorkel gear and wrap up a picnic lunch for an afternoon getaway that makes you feel like you’re a million miles away from everything.
